the destroyer is proud we're talking

about some of the attributes that come

with satan the destroyer of God's people

we're reading from the book of Isaiah in

the Bible good morning good afternoon

good evening wherever you are my name is

Raju and I'm Janice and this is Bible

Discovery TV as we look at the scripture

from Isaiah 33 to 35 we're going to

study what this prophet said this royal

prophet Corey is here to tell us what

she's doing Corey I'm going to be taking

a look at the land and the people of

Edom today all right the very

interesting and Janus what are you doing

today from the scripture I want to talk

about Zions treasure

alright Zions treasure is coming your

way Ryan is also here to tell us what

he's doing Ryan today I'm looking at the

life of one of the kings Isaiah served

King Hezekiah get your Bible and your

Bible guide out we are going to study

the Book of Isaiah as we look at chapter

33

Isaiah chapter 33 verses one through

nine woe to you who plunder though you

have not been plundered and you who deal

treacherously though they have not dealt

treacherously with you when you cease

plundering you will be plundered when

you make an end of dealing treacherously

they will deal treacherously with you O

Lord be gracious to us we have waited

for you be their arm every morning our

salvation also in the time of trouble at

the noise of the tumult the people shall

flee when you lift yourself up the

nations shall be scattered and your

plunder shall be gathered like the

gathering of the caterpillar as the

running to and fro of locusts he shall

run upon them the Lord is exalted for he

dwells on high he has filled Zion with

justice and righteousness wisdom and

knowledge will be the stability of your

times and the strength of salvation the

fear of the Lord

is his treasure surely their valiant

ones shall cry out side the ambassadors

of peace shall weep bitterly the

highways lie waste

the traveling man ceases he has broken

the Covenant he has despite the cities

he regards no man the earth mourns and

languishes Lebanon is shamed and

shriveled Charon is like a wilderness

and Bashan and Carmel shake off their

fruits Isaiah chapter 33 verses 1

through 9

as a teenager I was probably 17 years

old I was 17 and a half I spent three

weeks traveling around the world with my

parents actually for weeks who were

writing a story about our missionary

friend you know who that was that was

dr. mark bunting what a great man now

the end result was a book my father

wrote called the marked bunting story

while staying in India we had some

interesting experience Fitness one of

them involved a citywide rally in

Calcutta and the people were celebrating

their gods small G of creation and

nature now though it wasn't our

intention at that time we really came

face to face with some terrifying

spiritual warfare

as I moved on in life I still remember

those times of what felt like staring

evil in the face now Isaiah 33 speaks of

coming change in the way evil works and

how God will confront it so the question

is do we know what evil is and do we

understand the nature of evil we should

work to know the difference between sin

and righteousness remember that evil

brings sin and righteousness turns us to

God there's only two ways you can go

here there is righteousness and there is

evil let me tell you something I want to

explain that we have got that messed up

in our culture today because sin is real

you know I know people trying to turn

away from sin and turn away from

everything that's in there were the

result of sin hell and everything else

but let me tell you something there is a

consequence for evil in our lives and we

must make sure that we know what those

consequences are so we can avoid them

through inviting Jesus Christ into our

heart and our life this is the Bible

guide turn to today's passage as we look

at the Destroyer is proud and there's a

lot of people

who are proud to live like they live and

proud to do what they do but wait a

minute what are they doing and how are

they living the destroyer is proud this

is a great page if you don't have your

Bible guide why not use the addresses at

the bottom and write to us or you can go

to www.petland.com

that as we listen and as we read from

your scripture this great prophet Isaiah

that you would speak to us now so that

we can understand what you're saying and

the name of Jesus Christ and we said

together amen

now let's look at the scripture we've

got 33 chapter 1 or chapter 33 verse 1

very important

here's what it says woe to you who

plunder though you have not been

plundered and you who deal treacherously

though they have not dealt treacherously

with you when you cease plundering you

will be plundered and when you make an

end of dealing treacherously they will

deal treacherously with you

fascinating you see it seems that God

will confront evil and he will confront

sin and it will be destroyed

that's what God said he would do so

Christians must know the difference

between sin and righteousness you say

rod how do I know the difference between

sin and righteousness the Word of God

tells you the difference between what is

right and what is wrong the Bible the

word I say rod well come on everybody

talks about that that's got the whole

book with a bunch of fairy tale no it's

not it's it's not it doesn't have fairy

tales in it it has the truth it has the

record of history it has many

things here the authority of the Bible

is established among the deep scholars

let me tell you but it's the light idea

of culture that is making it

non non relevant today but it is

relevant so we must understand that this

tells us what sin is and what sin is not

and God tells us through his book if you

invite me into your heart I will change

your life and the prayer which I'll pray

in a minute comes from the Bible comes

from Romans chapter 10 verses 8 9 and 10

very important that we hear what the

word says Isaiah 33 2 through 6 say O

Lord be gracious to us we have waited

for you be there are memory mourning and

salvation also in time of trouble at the

noise of the tumult the people shall

flee when you lift up yourself when you

lift yourself up and the nations shall

be scattered and your plunder shall be

gathered like the gathering of a

caterpillar as the running to and fro of

the locusts he shall run upon them the

Lord is exalted for he dwells on high he

has filled Zion with justice and

righteousness wisdom and knowledge will

be the stability of your times and the

strength of salvation the fear of the

Lord is his treasure what does this say

simple when God is lifted up in our life

evil crumbles when we come to God and

lift it up evil crumbles we must live as

christ-like Christians truly following

Christ even though our faith may not

always be liked we must love Jesus

Christ and we must follow Jesus Christ

even though it seems kind of strange

still we need to follow the Lord very

important and we go on we learn more

from this Isaiah 33 79 surely their

valiant ones shall cry outside and the

ambassadors of peace shall we

bitterly the highways lie waste and the

traveling man ceases he has broken the

Covenant he has despised the cities he

regards no man verse 9 says the earth

mourns and languishes Lebanon is shamed

and shriveled Charon is like a

wilderness and bostrum and caramel shake

off their throats and here we learn

God's power is unmatched

you cannot go against God and succeed

you see the Lord is merciful but let me

tell you something there will come an

end to that grace in this world now I

need to tell you I'm just gonna say it

this is how the Bible explains it the

time of grace which we live in right now

will come to an end stop and Jesus

Christ will introduce in my view a seven

year period the first three and a half

years will be in peace and the second

three and a half years will be the time

of Jacob's trouble it will be a horrible

time but at the end of that time there

will come Jesus Christ and if you want

to read the details about this you can

read it in Revelation chapter 19 we'll

get there this year and let me tell you

something God is good I mean this time

of grace is over this is a limited time

so we come to Jesus Christ and we thank

you Lord for this time you've given us

right now we take advantage of it help

me Lord come into my life and so we

learn to pray lord help me help me to

know you and help me to keep your time

in my spirit Jesus Christ come into my

life and Jesus Christ pray with me now

Jesus Christ come into my life I need

you I need you quickly

I can't keep sinning but I need you help

me I need something else something

divine and in the name of Jesus Christ I

repent of my sin I'm not happy about it

help me to change

and to turn my life towards you in the

name of Jesus Christ amen

Isaiah chapter 34 contains prophecy

regarding Edom and the now

these were the descendants of Esau and

they got themselves into quite a bit of

trouble historically with God and his

covenant people now Edom and Esau were

of course related to the Israelites as

Edom Esau rather was jacob's twin

brother and Jacob is the patriarch the

father of the nation of Israel and Esau

is the father of the but I

don't want to get ahead of myself here

let's take a look at this nation of Edom

and the and we'll talk after

the first mention of Edom in the Bible

is found in Genesis chapter 36 which

contains the family history of Esau as

Esau and his brother Jacob grew their

households and business interests Esau

moved away to allow more growth for the

both of them Esau traveled to the land

of Seir and mixed with some of the

people living there and the nation of

Edom was born

unfortunately the continued history of

Edom in Israel was not peaceful crossing

paths again generations later recorded

in numbers chapter 20 the newly

emancipated nation of Israel asked for

passage through the land of Edom but

Edom rejected their request and added on

a threat of warfare the hostility lasted

both King Saul and King David of Israel

are said to have waged war against the

and there are mentions of Edom

in several of the Old Testament books of

the prophets outside of the Bible there

is now plenty of evidence that not only

establishes Edomite culture but also

illuminates their hostility towards and

continued warfare against judah even

from the archaeology of judah itself

this hostility has been found from

excavations of the Judean military

outpost of a rad a hebrew austere khan

or writing on pottery has been found in

the late 7th century BC it's a message

that urges more Judean troops be sent to

protect settlements against Edom a

comparable Edomite Oster khan has also

been found

it records information about grain but

the point of importance is that it was

found in a captured Judean fortress

evidence of items invasion this

hostility makes sense given the time

Assyria had destroyed northern Israel

and the ever-growing threat of Babylon

was Priority One for the Kingdom of

Judah Judah was distracted and her

enemies made good use of it this also

helps to explain another feature of the

land around this time many new judy and

military outposts were built it appears

that this was a response to an

aggressive Edom now God really had to

deal with Edom and the not the

least of which because during the

Babylonian invasion that is yet to come

during Isaiah's time period he

prophesized about the Babylonian

invasion because it is not yet happened

the Babylonian invasion will be what

destroys Jerusalem and and it takes the

Judeans into captivity and that happens

during the time of Jeremiah the Prophet

so I don't want to jump ahead too much

but the eventually participate

in the Babylonian invasion and help to

destroy Jerusalem and deport the Judeans

and because of this in there and mostly

their attitude towards this God really

ends up dealing with the and

bringing judgment upon them showing that

God deals with all nations not just the

Israelites he is you know worried and

concerned with all humanity's evil and

all humanity's good as well so this is

an interesting thing that we learn from

the prophets and Edom is going to be

featuring in some of the other prophetic

books not the least of which is the very

interesting appearance in Malachi which

of course we're going to get to as we

continue to power through these Old

Testament books of the prophets Ryan

what do you have for us well Corey in

her reading we're in the Book of Isaiah

and one of the people Isaiah Minister to

was King Hezekiah who will actually be

reading about tomorrow and the good news

about Hezekiah is

this Judyann king was one of the rare

righteous rulers during this time period

and God delivered him from his troubles

the Bible describes King Hezekiah as one

who trusted in the Lord God of Israel so

that after him was none like him among

all the kings of Judah nor who were

before him this was perhaps surprising

since Hezekiah father a has was one of

the worst kings Israel had ever seen as

he sacrificed to false gods on the high

places erected his own pagan altar in

the house of the Lord

and even past his own son through the

fire as a sacrifice

yet Hezekiah his first act as king was

the cleansing of the temple he also tore

down all the high places and

re-established worship to the one true

God he even went so far as to destroy

the more than seven hundred year-old

bronze serpent which Moses had made and

which the people were now burning

incense to at the time of Hezekiah is

ascent the Jews were being threatened

with extinction by the Assyrian Empire

and they were now looking to this

25-year old Judean King for deliverance

the northern Jewish nation of Israel had

already fallen and the southern nation

of Judah was now doomed to follow indeed

46 walled cities of Judah fell one by

one until only Jerusalem was left

however Hezekiah desiring to free his

people reinforced and even built a

secondary inside wall around Jerusalem

he also stockpiled weapons and food and

built a tunnel now known famously as

Hezekiah Stunna which connected to a

hidden spring so the people inside the

city would have water

he even plugged and hid other Springs

which surrounded Jerusalem so that the

invaders could not use them soon

Jerusalem found itself surrounded by the

Assyrians and in a letter to Hezekiah

the Assyrian King Sennacherib boasts of

his other military victories and claims

that just as the gods of those nations

did not deliver them from his hand

neither will the God of Israel deliver

Jerusalem Hezekiah immediately spreads

out the letter before God and pleads

with him for deliverance because of

Hezekiah is love and commitment to God

the Lord promises Hezekiah deliverance

indeed in a single night God smites 185

thousand Assyrian troops and Sennacherib

is later murdered by two of his own sons

although this was a tremendous victory

Hezekiah soon falls ill and Isaiah

informs him that he is going to die

though Hezekiah is utterly devastated he

once again entreats the Lord and before

Isaiah has even left the palace God

answers Hezekiah prayer and extends his

life 15 years and confirms his promise

with the sign of the shadow of the Sun

moving backwards ten degrees on the

sundial of Ahaz although Hezekiah would

soon develop a prideful heart

he later humbled himself although not

perfect Hezekiah is still regarded as

one of the most godly kings of Israel

and had a prosperous 29 year reign from

715 - 687 BC

you know what I love about Hezekiah is

that he always took things back to God

when Sanaa cribs threatened him and made

many boasts against God has a kind of

spread out the letter before God and you

know what God answered his prayers and

when God told the King through the

prophet Isaiah that he was gonna die

Hezekiah prayed to God for life and God

granted him that request Hezekiah was

wise for the most part and like him we

need to also bring everything before God

because he will defend us and fight our

battles I don't know what you're going

through it might seem impossible but

with God nothing's impossible so

whatever it is just bring it before God

he will fight for you and he'll defend

you and that's what Hezekiah learned

when you talk about and learn of these

situations where he was confronted and

you know Assyria came in and surrounded

Jerusalem he really only had one choice

and that was he you know his choice

wasn't to stand and fight a lot of

people think that's the way you know

stand and fight but his choice was to go

to the house of God mm-hmm and say Lord

look at this letter that they sent me

have you seen this yeah and God then is

invoked he was not a good report not a

good not a good report but you know a

good read the Lord kills 185,000 men

yeah you know and but they were the ones

who were mocking God and they had done

that so many other times so you know God

is not a merciless God he is very

merciful but when you come to the point

where that's it mm-hmm there is a

there's a limit yeah to the there's a

limit to this time at some point the

mercy of God has to be the justice it

you know so that is right 100 percent

right hmm so that was very very good

excellent report what did you do Jim I

wanted to talk about Zions treasure from

Isaiah chapter 33 verses five and six

I'm reading from the Holman Christian

standard Bible the Lord is exalted for

he dwells on high he has filled Zion

with justice and righteousness there

will be times of security for you a

storehouse of salvation wisdom and

knowledge

the fear of the Lord is Zions treasure

so here are my points Zions treasure is

not gold it's not silver it's not

weapons its treasure is the fear of the

Lord a relationship of dependence and

Trust leads to action by a warring God

on behalf of his people proverbs 1:7

says the fear of the Lord is the

beginning of knowledge but fools despise

wisdom and instruction so my truth for

us today is we need the storehouse of

our heart to be stocked with that wisdom

and just salvation wisdom and knowledge

that's right I love that and of course

we learned that the Old Testament with

with God as he speaks and it's the same

God and as he speaks in that time he

says righteousness and justice and if

Solomon who gains the wisdom but he

doesn't gain the heart and it's David

before him who had the heart of God and

so it's very interesting that that is

good too I just wanted to make mention

if you don't know I need to make this

known to you that we have a stream on

our web site www.kpbs.org/news/evening

there's also a place where you can

stream it live and watch there and Ravi

Zacharias is there you know of course we

have chuck Missler

and we have of course the quick study of

regular quick study programs and love

worth finding Jim Cantillon what a Jim

Catalan is there yeah one of my

favorites is love worth finding and

Adrian Rogers wasn't

amazing preacher an amazing man never

met him but he was an amazing man and

anyway I really like his work but

anything that has to do with the Bible

anything that gets you into the word

more or brings the word out for people

to see both deep teaching and preaching

is on the internet there on our website

Bible Discovery tv.com so I want to

mention that to you and also the Bible

guide this is the July Bible guide I

need to make mention of this this is

available for you if you want to give

there we would really appreciate that

the giving is very important that's the

only way we're really supportive around

here so we thank you for giving to us

and praying about what God would have

you do and we don't spend a lot of time

asking for money here on the program

because we believe that God will speak

to people and they will give and but I

would ask you simply to pray about it

and ask the Lord what he would have you

do and if you do that

we very much appreciate it this is

probably a good time to remind the

viewers as well if you have fallen

behind in your Bible reading that's okay

don't stop don't feel guilty right just

pick up and start with us again

today and don't don't bug yourself down

and don't get those guilts that's not

coming from us or the Lord you just move

forward and continue in the word that's

true and you know the Bible is something

that you can pick up and it's a great

time and the prophets that's a great

time to get back in the Bible because

the Lord speaks to us and today as we

talked about yesterday's program today

is you read the Bible it's like reading

the newspaper when we read the newspaper

or reading the Internet I mean

everything is happening exactly how God

said it so it is a good time to get

caught up and don't feel bad about it

just just skip everything and catch up

where we are right now and get your

Bible out and it's good to study now on

the next program we'll talk more about

Isaiah as we continue

King through this amazing book
